In an immigrant family, everyone learns the new language at their own pace. In my family, I learned English way faster than everyone, but in the process forgot much of the Russian I know. Meanwhile, others in my family have learned English at a much slower pace, some of them only to a certain point. What this means is eventually, you simply don't speak the same language as other people in your own family... which certainly can make life very Boo Hoo.
