About the event
ROMEO & JULIET, Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy, confronts the inevitability of love in a world divided by ideology, power, and violence. It asks a haunting question: Can love survive when it defies societal constraints? In stark contrast, the new adaptation of BEAUTY & THE BEAST—written by Williams—delves into the raw metamorphosis of love, stripping away sentimentality to uncover fierce and unsettling truths about intimacy and identity.
“These plays resonate in juxtaposition,” says director Joseph Williams. “ROMEO & JULIET presents love as an act of rebellion that cannot escape tragedy. BEAUTY & THE BEAST suggests love as a crucible of change, where survival demands transformation. Together, they offer contrasting visions of love’s power: one that destroys and one that redeems.”
